The back pain is most common ailment faced by many people. The patients usually visit doctors for seeking the treatment and they provide strong drugs for treating the disease. The spinal manipulation by a chiropractor can help to ease the back pain, says, researchers.
The research study providing evidence regarding spinal manipulation was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association on April 11. For the purpose of a study, the researchers analyzed 26 research studies including 4 databases that had more than 1,700 patients suffering from back pain. After the research, it was found that spinal manipulation has lowered the back pain which was measured using a pain scale having a range between 0 to 10.
Spinal manipulation procedure is done by chiropractors, osteopath, physical therapists, massage people in which pressure is applied on the joints.
The patients who had undergone this procedure has experienced a decline of 1 point in their pain.
Some patients also faced drawbacks after undergoing this treatment, for instance, some claimed that the pain relief was temporary and later on they had intense pain. Muscle stiffness and headache.
Can Spinal Manipulation Replace Painkillers?
The people suffering lower back pain are usually prescribed opioid. This new technique is expected to be an effective way to treat the pain. One can safely turn to spinal manipulation as it does not have significant negative impact. On contrary, the pain killer’s cause stomach problems, gastritis and even hypertension.
Dr. Richard Deyo, one of the study author said: “It is not yet known how the spinal manipulation lessens the lower back pain, but it may be due to the repositioning of small joints.”
Also, various treatment options like tablets, injections, traction, acupuncture are available to treat the condition. But it does not provide complete relieve. Spinal manipulation technique is also superior to heating pads, yoga and exercise.
