Google has rolled out an update for Chrome on April 12. The new updated Google Chrome browser is free from most annoying issues that were faced by the user. The fix will prevent accidental clicks while the browser is loading a page.
The fix was utmost needed because the webpage used to jump back to the top when the user has scrolled farther down the page. The new feature called “scroll anchoring” have successfully resolved this issue.
Google have reported in a blog post saying that progressive loading is the strength of Chrome browser, because there is no need to wait and the user can start viewing content from simultaneously as the site is loading.
What is Scroll Anchoring?
Have you ever visited some webpage and started reading the content, but due to ads the page that you were reading pops out and when you close the ad and revert to your webpage you have to start reading from the top again? Well, this is called progressive loading which is annoying for users. To combat this issue, Google has introduced scroll anchoring.
The scroll anchoring basically keeps the track of where you were on the page and prevents anything that redirects you to the start of the webpage.
The updated Google Chrome 56, locks the scroll position and content that user was reading to avoid the page jump even is the webpage is not completely loaded.

- Visit chrome://flags/#enable-scroll-anchoring on Chrome Dev / Canary. Click on “Enabled” from the drop-down list. Then click on “Relaunch Now” present at the bottom of the window

The drawbacks of scroll anchoring feature:
The company stated that this new feature also has some drawbacks. There might be some content that may not go well with this feature. If the user doesn’t want to use this feature he can simply “disable” it. However, as scroll anchoring is new technique introduced for Chrome browser, it should provide better navigation and minimize the hiccups. The feature is available for the latest chrome version 57, the user just needs to update their browser.
